Practise Safe Text |
There is little that
can be done to prevent text messages being intercepted, but if the
text message is encrypted then it will not be readable by anyone.
Even the guys who created the software would not be able to de-crypt
the messages!
Public key – Private key
The system works on the basis of “Public key - Private key”
technology. This is the basis of digital signatures too.
When you have the software, you “pair” with someone with
whom you wish to communicate securely. They, too, need to have the
software (or be a special server). You
can only communicate with those with whom you have “paired”.
This also adds to the security of the process.
You “pair” by exchanging “public keys” but
you never disclose your “private key”.

Xecure Text (XMS)
|
XMS
(Xecure Messaging Service) is a java-based software that sits on
your handset and allows you to send, store and receive text messages
in encrypted format.
It's as easy
to use as normal SMS - in fact, it is an SMS - BUT it is always
encrypted unless you apply your "Private key" to decrypt
a message.
Snooping - No-one can get to your messages without
your "Private Key". If anyone manages to bypass your "Public
Key" the message they see will be encrypted and unreadable.
Intercepting - if anyone intercepts your message,
it will be in encrypted format and unreadable
Spoofing - your XMS is tied to your handset and
so no-one can send a message and pretend it has come from you.
Modification - your XMS cannot be modified since
no-one can read it to change it!
Remote Snooping - cannot happen without your "Private
Key" for access and if they did access the message is encrypted
and unreadable
